A Fundraising Project by Ikala STEM — Chapter North America

𝗪𝗼𝘄! 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱!

It all started with members of the association Ikala STEM in the USA, painting watercolor artworks for fun, and to get together virtually through a relaxing activity. Then… why not do a fundraising from the beautiful artworks?

Plus, it is holidays season! A time to show love, care and gratitude to our loved ones. Failing to be able to visit and hug them all in those challenging times, why not send them hand-drawn postcards, and support a good cause while doing so?

As members of the Ikala STEM association, we are glad to invite you to participate in our last fundraising activity of 2020.

What is Ikala STEM’s SMART 2020 project?

In collaboration with A.D Is Simply Painting , Ikala STEM is organizing a silent auction on December 1st — 2, 2020 (Giving Tuesday!) to support Ikala STEM’s works.

All the profit from this auction will serve to sustain or to create Ikala STEM activities to empower women in STEM in Madagascar. By participating in our auction, you will help us sustain our flagship activities: IAW (Ikala STEM Annual Workshop), Ikala STEM Small Grants, and LAMPS, and be more impactful in our effort to empower Malagasy women scientists.

When is SMART 2020 — Ikala STEM’s silent auction?

All the artworks are paintings by members of Ikala STEM — Chapter America: Adelaide Miarinjara, Tinah Martin, and Tiana Noëlle. Tinah is a Data Manager at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Columbia University, NY, she started painting for fun and work-life balance. Tiana Noëlle is a PhD student in Computer Science at WPI, MA, she started painting as her stay-sane-in-a-pandemic activity since September 2020.

What is Ikala STEM?

Ikala STEM is a non-profit association which aims to promote Science and Education in Madagascar and to raise the profile of Malagasy women in STEM. Our motto:

“Empowering the Next Generation of Malagasy Women Scientists.”

Ikala STEM has active chapters for Madagascar, for Subsaharan regions (with offices in South Africa), for America (USA and Canada), and Europe. All activities are centered in Madagascar. Our flagship events include:

  • IAW (Ikala STEM Annual Workshop) which gathers Malagasy scientists and collaborators in a three-day event rich in impactful STEM-related discussions and activities.
  • Ikala STEM Small Grants contest which allows us to provide financial support for winning STEM projects led by Malagasy female scientists in Madagascar.
  • Ikala STEM LAMPS (Leveraging local AstronoMy site to Promote STEM), a three-day science fair with activities that promote STEM education and demonstrate the impact of STEM on local socio-economic development.

In addition to events that are organized collaboratively, each chapter also has their active trimester during which their local events take place.

It’s that time of the year again for Ikala STEM Chapter America!! So on behalf of Ikala STEM and everyone who will benefit from our silent auction, we already express our gratitude for your participation and your generosity!

Misaotra! Merci! Thank you!
